In the movie there were four different newspaper headlines. One read "The Best Place on Earth Seahaven Voted Planets Top Town", they used that title so that Truman would feel safe. He was planning on leaving, but they make the rest of the world seem so horrible so that he won't want to leave his little town that protects him from all of the evil. If he leaves then the entire show is ruined so they are using the media to influence him to stay. Another newspaper headline was "who needs Europe" they posted this article when Truman was calling Fiji asking if there was a Lauren Garland or a Sylvia Garland. She was his motivation for leaving. He wanted to go to Fiji and slowly work his way back. He wanted to be a explorer and travel the world, but they were doing everything in their power to make it impossible for him to leave. They give him no freedom, no choice of his own. They have everyone around him shut down his ideas for exploring and on top of that they use the media so that there is nothing that will make him believe that it is a good idea. After that another newspaper headline is "Crackdown on the Homeless Enough is Enough" this was after Truman though he saw his dad and he was dragged away. His mother told him that it couldn't have been his father since he died at sea, they also changed how he looked in the picture so Truman would believe that he was wrong. If you tell a person something so many times they will begin to believe it. That is what they were hoping would happen with Truman. They made many mistakes and they used social media to fix them or to cover them up. For example when the light fell from the sky they had the person on the radio say that a passing plane had dropped it, then when the radio messed up and they crossed paths with the microphone sets they said that it was a police station they crossed paths
