Early Years Observation

It is important to evaluate whether or not the EYPP is making a difference to the children who need it the most. In the early years observations take place to assess where a child currently is working within according to the EYFS. This is where a good relationship between the setting and family would make a difference. A knowledgeable key person will know their key child’s starting points and will be able to track their progress through their assessments. In May 2015 OFSTED began including children receiving EYPP in their inspections. Practitioners must be able to confidently explain which EYPP supported activities are taking place throughout the setting and how they are of benefit to individual children (REFERENCE). Evidence must be available

In addition, I agree with Bourdieu’s work that cultural background should be considered in terms of planning activities and resources only because every child has different abilities. According to the EYFS, it seeks to provide quality and consistency in all early years’ settings, so that every child makes good progress and no child is ignored. Moreover, a secure foundation which provides learning and development opportunities which are planned around the needs and interests of each individual child. In my practice, I was working with a child who did not understand the lesson outcome when delivered in class, I therefore simply explained differently, showing different strategies and examples as to how the teacher did and the child was able to…

But the sad part of this anticipation is wishing past every stage of their development to see the adult they will become. Introduction: How Children Succed p.xiii&xv In this introduction I was surprised on how they are having three year olds filling out worksheets and completing drills on letter and number recognition (Tough, 2013, p.xiii). I did notice when my son went to transitional kindergarten that what was expected from him was what a kindergarten back then would be learning. When he went to kindergarten he was expected to know more than what I remember was required before.…

How do the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) documents guide practitioners to support children’s development? Government guidance and documentation for practitioners in the area of early years has been of considerable interest and scrutiny since the EYFS was first officially introduced in 2008. The current documentation in the UK has evolved through the years, becoming what we know today, through the influence of studies, reports and theories. My field work experience had started in the preschool and where I have done the majority of my observations thus far. In the preschool I was beginning to understand how the different of components of the preschool all had concepts of phycology through all aspects of the classroom. During my time I saw how Piaget’s stages of cognitive development, how students handled new information through various methods, and Vygotsky’s sociocultural perspective are incorporated through different sections of the classroom. The classroom was based that learning should not be a structured experience, but learning should be developed through play and exploration.…

For this observation I attended Horseshoe Trails Elementary School in Cave Creek, where I observed a boy in 2nd grade. To keep the confidentiality of the child, I will refer to him as Bob. Bob is a Caucasian 8-year-old male, who lives with his older sister and both of his parents in Cave Creek. His teacher, Ms. Sunshine, informed me he is a very bright child who performs above average in all of his core subjects. She reported he has a lot of friends in class and is just starting to take an interest in girls.…

The age of the children I observed were around the age three to five years old, preschool age. I arrived at 3:30 pm, and the children were all sitting in the carpet. It was around reading time. Some children had books and were sitting on the carpet, while others were sitting on a couch reading, or picking out a book from the shelf. One girl on the carpet was talking to another girl about wanting to eat chicken nuggets, and imitated eating nuggets.…

The Algoma Health Unit Christmas Party was a fun day to interact and observe children through their development. Throughout our course, we learned very well the five areas of development and how crucial they are within a child’s life. By knowing the five areas of development, it has helped me observe the children at the party and apply my knowledge and really see it in action. Crafts engage multiple brain areas simultaneously and improve bilateral coordination between both sides of the brain, leading to future cognitive development. Within our craft, there were many materials that required kids to use both their hands to do something (ex: putting glue on an eye).…

I feel it is important to note that these programs are very new and have not been established for long, so although a lot of their accommodations for children do not meet the Infant/Toddler Environment Rating Scale, at least when I observed, it is understandable why. However, the infant and toddler rooms had great outdoor space for gross motor play and is located by a nature trail surrounded by trees and other natural life. I felt this influenced the children to be more explorative, and the teachers did a great job pointing out educational instances while they experienced them…

There was a bin that had different compartments filled with form blocks while supporting himself on the bin with his left hand and tummy, he was grabbing the blocks with his right hand from the bin closest to him and then placing them in the compartment in a further compartment. I noticed that while he got to the bigger pieces he began to struggle as well as seemed to give up. Please note: When I was observing and reading this document, I some how missed that we needed two examples. While I was observing the child play, he did not really seem like he needed the much support, however in the observation above it did seem like he was supporting himself on the bin. In terms of a second behavior to record, I am recalling on measure 2 when the…
