It has become increasingly prevalent that most people use drugs for the first time when they are teenagers. Research has shown that the earlier a person uses drugs the more likely they are to abuse or become addicted drugs. One of the biggest risk factors to becoming a substance abuser is the age at which it starts. It is the highest among people in their late teens and twenties. This can be predominantly attributed to what they are learning from their elders, and the media. If they grew up in an environment where they see those around them constantly engaging negative behaviours, such as; taking copious amounts of drugs, drinking excessively, they immediately feel as if that is the correct thing to do and imitate it.
