Many things affected Jamestown from growing. The english men wanted to explore other places and came upon Virginia. They were surrounded by Indians, none of them have ever seen a white man before in their life. Before they knew were or if there were any Indians there, they were looking for gold and the Indians saw them in search of something. They told the chief Powhatan and he told them to strike. They fired arrows at the men and then many deaths occurred. The white men expected them to be nice and feed them for they were counting on them for their survival, but it did not turn out as they expected. The colonist then built a fortress that took nineteen days to build, they thought it would show the indians what they were capable of. John Smith didn’t want to show fear to them so he resorted with threats and violence to bend the Indians.
The days became hotter and people became more thirsty. They didn’t have any clean non salty water but they decided they had no choice so they drank the water. You’re supposed to only make one burrow hole but he did three. That killed to man but, when the archaeologist dug up his grave they found the damage of his skull and took note that he was murdered.
