Early identification of developmental disorders is critical to the well-being of children and their families to avoid developmental disorders or delays that will needs treatment, such as early developmental intervention services that consist of cognitive, language, motor, self-help/social, articulation, home, health history, and behavior (US, 2014). Reasons for early identification of developmental disorders include proof that a child’s development is age appropriate; early detection of difficulties to allow for early adaptation and interventions; and to provide for an opportunity for prophylactic assistance, support, and education about age-appropriate likely behaviors (Goolsby, & Grubbs, 2011). U.S. department of health and human services (2014) states that as many as 1 in 4 children, ages 0-5, are at moderate or high risk for developmental, behavioral, or social delay. Developmental milestones consist of cognition, communication, motor skills, and activities of daily living skills, social, and behavioral skills. Here is an example of milestones for a two months old infant that should be reached: 1. Social and Emotional: Begins to smile at people, can briefly calm himself (may bring hands to mouth and suck on hand), and tries to look at parent; 2. Language & Communication, coos, makes gurgling sounds, and turns head toward sounds; 3.
