I decided to conduct my observation on Monday 22, 2016 at Lopez early college high school. The person I decided to observe is Daniel Rodriguez, which is the college advisor at the school. Mr. Rodriguez office is located inside a computer lab that contains approximately 20 computers. These computers are mostly used by juniors and seniors that need help with the college enrollment process. This year, Mr. Rodriguez is providing help to 411 students that will be graduating in June. Fortunately, there are also two programs that assist Mr. Rodriguez with all the work, which are AmeriCorps and Upward Bound. During the day I was there, I noticed that the students are really enthusiastic, and they try to take advantage of all the help that is provided …show more content…
Rodriguez uses in his daily work. In U.S high schools all the students have four free fee waiver that can be used to take the ACT and SAT. These tests are one of the requirements to get into a university in the United States and Canada (also, it may apply to other countries); therefore, students must take this tests before graduating. In this situation, AmeriCorps members are in charge of helping students register for the tests, then the students need to fill out the waiver with their name, counselor’s name, and signature. Once the application is completed and the students are registered the AmeriCorps members give the used fee waivers to Mr. Rodriguez. Another thing in which students need help is filling the Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA). This application must be submitted by every upcoming freshman and current college students in order to get financial assistance through their undergraduate career. Each application varies depending on the students’ situation. Consequently, Mr. Rodriguez has to work with different application forms. For example, TASFA applications, and signature pages. It should be emphasized that almost all the documents used in this type of process are provided by the U.S Department of

Someone once said, "Suffer the pain of discipline or suffer the pain of regret." This essentially means that discipline will be difficult to manage but it’s a finer choice than regretting your decisions later on. School can be difficult, but the pain of the self-command and devotion will get you much further in your education than lackadaisical and deprecate. It seems to me that future freshmen with a hard work ethic and commitment should attend Early College High School because it saves the student time, money and you provides a safe atmosphere with a supportive audience. Not only is Early College High School a free program…

His eyes brushed down a list of names quickly and came to a sudden halt. With a glance toward me, he called me to the front of the room to present my work from the day before. And then it wasn't just him and me, it was him and me and every other sharp-faced person in the room. They were experienced "AP students," the best of the best, I was a mere peasant in their presence. Reluctantly, I made my way to the front of the room and with an unsure hand slid my work under the projector screen.…

As a counselor, balancing the paperwork, personal student crises, and trying to reach the overall student population, balancing time is challenging and frustrating. If I could have my way, I would never do paperwork and always be around students. Being present with my students is something I love and always make time to do, but I am not always purposeful in the planning of the day. Lopez challenges the reader to not only be intentional about being present, but to organize your schedule so being present becomes a natural part of your schedule. I always make it a point to greet students as they enter the door and have crucial “check-in” time with my at-risk students.…

    Financial Aid Fault

Before providing financial aid to a student, the government should take into consideration several points. The first point that must change within the financial aid process is the information that is submitted within the application. We must do away with the minimal information about the individual applying; by doing this, the students whom have put in hundreds of hours of work throughout their high school, and middle school, career will be able to file their personal records and receive the correct amount of government financial aid. Nonetheless, by doing this, there will be no elimination of government financial loans to others whom have not worked an equal amount; however, it will help place the student who is paying for their own college in the correct realm of student aid amounts. Another observation that must be taken is the number of students traveling to other countries and if these students are making a large enough impact on our education system that we must enhance our government financial aid process in order to cater to those students whom are seeking an education from outside of the United States.…

SEP #4 In my observation of a Kindergarten class, there were many different teaching methods used.
