Dear Senator John McCain,
I have been a teacher in an Early Education environment located in Arizona for the past four years. I have been teaching in Early Education for many years starting in Iowa, two years in Idaho and now in Arizona. I had no formal education beyond High School up until three years ago when I began slowly working towards my Associates degree in Early Education. I have seen how the pay scale for Early Education providers has stayed at or below poverty level for most teachers in 32 states, giving me reason to question my ability to pay for continuing education in an area where good quality teachers are needed.

4524: Child Care Act bill that provide for quality education for our youngest children. This bill provides many support dollars for the programs involving the early education of young children. It mentions a few times increasing the pay of the providers of early educations but it is vague and does not mention how this would be done. I also see in the President’s Budget Plan for 2016 he is asking for more support for programs that provide needed help and education to the families of children under five. It also mentions that providers should have more education, and more accountability. I do not see anything mentioned about increasing the pay of the valuable people who are providing these families and children with care while preparing them to enter the elementary schools with the ability to perform well. I feel that supporting the increased wages of these early educators will help to address the social and academic success of children in early. Other advantages would also be providing the teachers with incentives to further their education and better address the issues of leading these early learners to successful take their first steps in education. Also giving them the ability to provide for their own families at a level more appropriate for their hard work and

It is seen that many lower-funded schools pay teachers less, while higher-funded schools pay teachers more. This is another important aspect for me to take into consideration as a future educator. Although these observations are not always true, I feel that it is important for me to work in a district that one advocates for their students and two pays their teachers for what they expect out of them. Whether that be in an inner-city school…

When Early Childhood Educators are well-compensated, there will be more incentive for highly-qualified staff to remain in the field. These staff will be able to build strong relationships with children and families, which will benefit the community as a whole because children in successful programs such as High Scope have been shown to be less likely to opt for welfare or participate in criminal activity later in life (Johnson,…

For example of teaching standards enhanced, before the teachers did not have to have an associate or a bachelor in early childhood education. Now, the teachers must obtain bachelors in childhood education and the teacher’s aides must have their associates in a similar field. In addition, Head Start doesn’t just benefit the kids, but the teachers as well. Society’s high standards do not make the path to success any easier for children. So the better prepared a child is, the better chances of children succeeding in their education and life. Having early education experiences sets children up for academic success because it gives them time in a structured educational environment before entering kindergarten.
