In regards to the play, "The Christians," by Lucas Hnath, the controversy the Christians vs. Christians, quarrel about the existence of hell. Ultimately, the idea that hell does not exist in the presence of Christianity seems absurd, since Christians deem the origin of evil behavior to be stored there. In another literary work "the philosophy of pitchforks," it also reassesses the image of hell. Pastor Paul did have a good point when he stated that the Bible "does not say hell" (Hnath 37). The poem also correlates with the mystery behind the truth about hell.…
Cornelius Plantinga Jr. made me ask myself a lot of questions while reading his book Engaging God’s World: A Christian Vision of Faith, Learning, and Living. My first question was how am I going to read a book about Calvinism, when I’m not exactly sure what Calvinism is? To say I was skeptical of this book is an understatement. My thoughts have always been that people believe and view things differently and that's ok.…
Sacramental character, or the indelible ontological mark rendered by the Holy Spirit on the soul of the ordained empowering them to act in the person of Jesus on behalf of the Church (AVP), is not a universally recognized Christian concept. As the Christian church began to shift from a communal entity where the whole community was expected to participate in worship and ministry by making use of their God-given charisms, to a hierarchical institution where ministry and leadership was tied exclusively to the roles of bishops and priests, the Church would need to theologically justify how and why the sacramental roles, that had been communal events, were now under the purview of the clerical order. By making use of the notion of sacramental…
The poem “I will put Chaos into fourteen lines” by Edna St. Vincent Millay portrays the speaker as someone who is trying to make order out of chaos in her life by effectively using personification, an assertive tone, and caesura to make her point. The speaker uses capitalization when referring to Chaos as if he is a human being that she knows but seems to be upset with or frustrated at. She wants to put him into “fourteen lines and keep him there” (lines 1,2) as if she believes he is the cause of something evil that happened to her. The fourteen lines could mean the fourteen lines of the sonnet which have strict rules to adhere to in order to successfully write one well.…
Athanasius was the chief deacon assistant to Bishop Alexander of Alexandria. A man called Arius denied that Christ was fully God. He claimed that Christ was father’s creation and thus Christ wasn’t supposed to be considered as God, arguing on a fact that Christ could not offer salvation (Dennison, Jr.). Athanasius challenged this view by giving examples of his own. The incarnation of the Word is his most famous writing (Galli).…
7eventh Time Down sings the song, God is on the Move. The words of the refrain, “God is on the move, on the move, Hallelujah. God is on the move, in many mighty ways” accurately reflects my life. God is definitely on the move and has been preparing me for this journey in the MOL program. Thinking about events in my life that contributed to my growth as a leader, several events come to mind.…
“A substance that is infinite, eternal, immutable, independent, supremely intelligent, supremely powerful” (30). This is his idea of what “God” means to him. But if every idea has a formal reality, where did he get this idea from? God must be the cause of this idea therefore God does exist.…
As a young man, Nat had heard voices, pushing him to become a priest and o set his people free. At 25 years old, he escaped from his master's farm, but about a month after, he returned back to his master and said “The Holy Spirit” is the reason for his return. Although Joseph Travis, a farmer, was a kind person, him and his family were Nats first victim. They caught him next to Travis’ farm. He claimed that his mind was restless and observant, and wa devoted to fasting and praying.…
As noted in the Bible, Christian Theist are made in the image of God. Meaning we are intelligent, we value morals, we believe in right and wrong, good and bad, we are just, we have feelings and emotions, we are holy, we are righteous, etc. With the understanding we as Christians are made in his image, in hopes to build a relationship with him, gives us a sense of self-worth. Although we are predestined to sin; to be created after a supreme being that is both omnipotent and omniscient, strengthens our belief that we are “very good”. Another important fact notes we are made of both body and soul.…
Our characteristics, feelings, and behaviors make up who we are as a person. Most of these things develop and thrive as the years pass on. The difference between humans and the rest of creation is the “ability to reason… no other creature has that ability” (Got Questions Ministries). God made us in His image so that we can have a connection with Him. He wants us to glorify Him here on earth.…
The Divine command theory is a meta - ethical theory which states that an action is obligatory if and only if, it is commanded by God. In this essay, I will examine whether any form of divine command theory is defensible. In defence, I shall begin by looking at the modified theory as proposed by Robert Adams. Secondly, I will attempt to assess objections from Plato, Austin and Wainwright; before proceeding to evaluate whether these objections are successful in demeaning this theory. Let us take the modified version of the divine command theory , as proposed by Robert Adams (1987); in defence of the original theory.…
The Differences and Similarities of the Early Church and the Modern Church The church has changed significantly over the course of two thousand years. Such changes include where believers met and worshiped, activities and responsibilities, and leaders of the church. However, there are certain things that have not changed since the start of the church. This report will discuss these differences and similarities.…
The philosopher René Descartes expresses his belief that he has proven the existence of God beginning in Meditation III. By this time in his meditations, Descartes has concluded that the only thing he can be sure of is that he exists and is a thinking thing. Through this thinking, he concludes that he knows nothing for certain. Descartes begins considering the existence of God by examining the contents of his mind. It is through his innate idea of God that Descartes concludes that God exists, and through God’s existence his understanding of the material world as a whole is concluded.…
The introduction to the meaning of worship in spirit and in truth defines a person’s relationship and experience or encounter with God. Therefore, the two key ideas that was of interested in the book review was: what worship is and what worship is not. Worship is spiritual, therefore, the evident of true worship has to come from the heart, mind, and soul of a person. The heart, mind, and soul are components of spiritual transformation in a relationship with Jesus Christ. Secondly, worship is loving others, as example of God’s love for the world, (Jn. 3:16, EVS).…
Biblical Relationship, Opinion, and Familiarity As a person who was brought up in a Christian environment, I have had a unique experience reading and exploring the Bible. The past several years of my life have been spent actively studying God's Word and attempting to apply it to my life. Throughout this time, my own personal thoughts and feelings have formed from reflection and meditation. A relationship has been built between the Bible and myself, and as a result my relationship with God has been strengthened.…
