Early Childhood Philosophy Statement

Since my early days in a montessori classroom, helping my younger peers, I have wanted to be a teacher. Recently my biggest influence has been my Early Childhood class. From attending competition to interacting with and teaching the preschoolers, it has truly amplified my love for teaching.
One instance that helped lead me to the conclusion that a preschool teacher was the right profession for me, was when I participated in the FCCLA competition. I had chosen to compete in the Story Stretching Event. This event involved picking a book and creating eight lessons based on that story that fell into different developmental categories (fine motor, math, dramatic play, etc.). I had worked so hard on my lessons, coming up with an original song, creating homemade props, and writing and perfecting my eight lesson plans. I was so nervous, but as soon as I entered the room to compete, I was completely in my element. I read

I was in my fourth year of Early Childhood Education, and we were just assigned our buddies for the year. The “preschool buddies” are when a high school student and one or two preschoolers are paired together to create a stronger bond between the high school students and the preschoolers. It was our first buddy day and we had just finished. My buddies, Alina and Ibrahim, and I had to say goodbye because I needed to go to my next class. Ibrahim came up to me and asked if we could play together again next buddy day, I told him of course we could. He told me that he would miss me and that he was so excited for me to come back. In that moment I knew that I could never have a job where I wasn’t personally involved with children. Having a hand in the growth of a child is so rewarding. I love helping children learn new things, and it always makes me feel honored to know that I have taught and affected someone for the better. Looking back, it makes sense how on career day, I always wrote down teacher as one of my dream

1 I come from a long line of educators and administrators on both sides of my family. Various relatives of mine have taught me to understand and appreciate the importance of education. This being the case, they have inspired my decision to be a teacher, preferably an elementary school teacher. Last year, I sat in on my aunt’s third grade class at Washington Irving, an elementary school in my district that I attended for three years. After visiting the classroom a handful of times, I absolutely fell in love.…

Philosophy Statement I have chosen to work in this field because I believe that early school years are the most significant in a child’s life as they lay the foundation for future education. True education is one that brings out the person’s potential. Education should encompass the whole child—intellectual, social, emotional and physical aspects of his/her being. Being a preschool teacher involves a true love for the career and working with children. "…

The experiences that I have had in the past that lead me to pursue this career path was a simple preschool observation that I needed to do as an assignment for a child development class. I was then majoring in communications and had no interest in becoming a teacher, let alone a preschool teacher where I would be interacting with children as a part of my job. I did not understand children therefor I did not care to work with them or be around children. When I went into the LAC Child Development Center and saw the children and teachers interacting and learning and playing I was so shocked to see what I had been so oblivious to all these years. I was amazed at the level of intelligence these children had all by learning through play and conversations…

Early years of childhood have widely been recognised as the most important years of learning and development. “Research have shown the importance of these years to learn and acquire new skills” (DEECD, 2010), which have assigned a great responsibility to the educators working with the young children. As an early childhood educator, I feel that it is my responsibility to provide the high quality learning environment for the young children to learn, acquire and develop social, emotional, academic and technological skills. The following paper contains my philosophy statement, which includes my values and professional knowledge in relation to children, teaching and learning in early childhood education. I knew I wanted to be a teacher since I was young because I had a teacher that I had a close relationship with and made me love school. As we’ve studied the different types of educational philosophies in class, I’ve been able to see which category my beliefs fall into and where that puts me in the teaching world. Throughout my educational career, my family and teachers have shaped my philosophy into a combination of both romanticism and progressivism. As a teacher I want to be able to help a student strive for self-fulfillment while focusing on individual student’s learning processes. Based on my ideals, I want for my classroom to be a place where my students can go to learn in a way that suits their personality, and in a non-pressured environment. I want to be able to engage my students and challenge them to learn based on their interests.…

From watching old videos and listening to my mother’s stories, I realized education would always be a big part of my life. Being a young one, I was always eager to learn, but I was also eager to teach. I would set up all my stuffed animals in little chairs and pretend I am teaching my own class. Let’s say I called it “The School of Animals”. I would make up my own lesson plans, pretend to take attendance, and actually teach the animals.…
