One researcher set up a study to the way people interpret a situation and the meaning they put with the situation depends on the way they act. The researcher observed a kindergarten classroom for a year, two to three times a week for three hours. This classroom was mainly white, and working class families. The researcher also took notes at the child’s home when they visited for two to three hours. Parents, teachers, and the two children were interviewed. This study also included a portfolio of their work, report cards, testing information and classroom materials from the two students. The researchers main focus was on two children, Peley and Raji. These two children differed from the rest of the class. Peley has dark skin, long black hair, and is from Southeast Asia. Peley’s parents are highly skilled and work with in a factory for medical instruments. Her mother works during the day shift, while her father works the night shift. There is limited English in the house. Raji has black skin, big eyebrows, and dark circles under his eyes. His parents’ marriage was arranged, and they are proficient in English. His father is an engineer, and his mother is studying for her high school equivalency degree. …show more content…
Peley would come into the classroom and talk with the teacher about something she has brought in from home. Mrs. Starr would engage in the conversation but Peley would not allow her classmates to see what she brought in. As the year went on the other students in the classroom would tell her “Go away!” or “No one wants to see your funny stuff!” When Raji came back from his two-month visit to India he was talkative and initiated conversations in his class but quickly returned to his old behaviors. When he was initiating conversations his classmates were responding with, “Who cares!” or “So

My field work experience had started in the preschool and where I have done the majority of my observations thus far. In the preschool I was beginning to understand how the different of components of the preschool all had concepts of phycology through all aspects of the classroom. During my time I saw how Piaget’s stages of cognitive development, how students handled new information through various methods, and Vygotsky’s sociocultural perspective are incorporated through different sections of the classroom.
