Early Childhood Observation Toddlers

The environment changed drastically in the last fifteen minutes at this point, in the span of just fifteen minutes four more toddlers and a child, perhaps only a few months shy of one were brought in. The three original toddlers all seemed to react to the new additions, either by watching them being walked in by a parent or by watching them as they too found their place in the play area. The music was still on, but none of the toddlers seemed to pay it any mind and it soon, even to me became just another piece of the ambiance. Yet, as the number of child grew in the room the size they were able to traverse decreased, the younger child that came in with the new toddlers was place on the other side of the room and the divider gate, which had …show more content…
The number of caregivers in the room jumped to four as one took care of the younger child and the other three watched over the increased number of toddlers. Not knowing how many more children would be introduced to the room I choose not to label the new children as I had with the first three. Instead, I split my observational goals, firstly I was counted to follow the three children I labeled to see how they interacted to the environment and its changes as more of a case study, and for the other kids and more that would be added I decided to watch how they interacted with the toddlers already their. In this time span I noted two important changes in the toddlers, firstly that it did not matter who had a toy or area first, as everything was eventually shared, and secondly, it did not matter how many kids were in one area, it seemed as if they did not even notice one another until one of them made a louder sound or took hold of the biggest toy. I also noticed that gender seemed to not play a factor, as everyone ended up grouping
