The health care worker also taught the mother of a client that reading to her child would promote the client’s development. A client’s babysitter was taught to help the client verbalize his needs by only giving him toys, snacks, and milk, when he pointed and tried to communicate what he wanted. My clinical instructor was a counselor, we did not assess the height and weight of the three clients. We visited two of the client’s in their homes, and one client at a daycare. I did not have access to a client’s chart. Although, upon observation all three client’s appeared to fall within an expected growth chart. All three clients were toddlers between twenty-five and thirty-two months of age. The toddler’s I observed and interacted with were all late talkers and needed assistance with their speech. There was not any concurrent medical conditions or developmental delays. The first client at twenty-nine months old was not saying two or three word combinations. At each visit the health care worker would copy what the client was doing to establish trust and promote attention. For the first visit we sat on the floor with the client and mirrored what he did to allow the client to feel more comfortable. Getting on the toddlers level by mirroring seemed to help the child gain interest in us as well, so that the health care worker could better engage the client. I first reviewed the websites from the e-mail I received. I listened to the pod cast assigned to the rotation. I also reviewed the growth and development study guide for infants and toddlers. I reviewed chapter 5 in the textbook on the concepts of growth and development. I read the information pertaining to the toddler in chapter 11, which is health promotion and maintenance of the toddler and preschooler. I printed and reviewed the site tool before the rotation. I took the site tool and a spiral notebook with me to the rotation so that I could make notes before arriving at the next client’s location.
