Introduction.
The attributes of the early childhood professional include the values and beliefs held, professional commitment, with freedom and space (Doddington & Hilton p. 115).
The definition and goals of early childhood education should be inclusive of expressive and receptive language skills, sensory-perceptual, interpersonal and intrapersonal skills, gross motor and fine motor skills personal autonomy and skilful interactive skills with peers and adults together with affective, cognitive and psychomotor goals (Brophy Good & Nedler 1975, p. 94).
According to Fargher (2012, p. 84) early childhood education has a level of autonomy in teaching and interests can be drawn on in innovative methods to engage children. Early Childhood Education needs highly qualified people who are also effective leaders. This involves qualifications, professional standards and building leadership (ECA 2011, p. 29). Early childhood education is the most important period in a child’s life is, but in 2016, it is still highly underrated in Australia. Whilst we all recognize how vital these years are, educators are still not seen as being in a career, but predominantly as care givers and the salaries of ECE educators reflects this, between $42,000-$80,000 (2012, p. 81).
