Education started with hunter and gatherers recognizing that hunting and gathering food were natural ways for children to learn. Not long after this, industry came into the world which made children work in factories. They had to work long hours, but this developed their skills and abilities. “The idea began to spread that childhood should be a time for learning, and schools for children were developed as places for learning” (Gray). The true education system started in the 16th century in Europe. They wanted children to learn how to read the Protestant religion. In the 17th century, education shifted to Massachusetts in the United States. Massachusetts became the first colony to mandate schooling (Gray). They taught the children how to read “The Little Bible of New England” and how to be a good puritan. Education began to have different views on what it should be. To be an Early Childhood Educator, you must have a bachelor’s degree. The median pay is 55, 490 dollars (Bureau). “The higher your final degree level, the more you get paid, according to government standards” (Teacher). Also, there are different salaries between kindergarten and elementary. The median pay for a kindergarten teacher is 52, 620 dollars, while the pay for an elementary teacher is 55, 800 dollars (Bureau). The number of jobs to be an Early Childhood Teacher in 2014 was 1,517,400. The job outlook at the time and still today is six percent (Bureau). The employment change in this job is 87,800 from 2014 to today. To keep a teaching job for a long time, after seven years in experience a person can apply for a tenure (How). This means once someone has reached this level, it is very hard to be fire. “Teachers hoping to reach this level must demonstrate a strong proficiency in educating and helping students”
