1. What did you like best about the class?

Something that I really like from Professor Towns’ courses, is that homework for every chapter was displayed at the beginning of the course. It give me an idea how much work I have to complete every week and check for weeks that may have more homework than others. Also, having the homework at the beginning of the course give students the opportunity to work on it ahead of time.

2. What should be changed or cut out of the class?

Honestly, nothing should be cut out of the class. There are not quizzes, middle or final exam. Then, completing the questions at the end of each chapter, participating in the discussions, and working in the portfolio, is an excellent method of learning the content of the course, without the stress of timed quizzes or exams.

Write five new things learned this semester.

1. The Bronfenbrenner model.

2. Maslow’s hierarchy of needs.

3. Diverse strategies that can be used to support and empower families in their children’s development and learning.

4. How to support families through community resources.

5. Understanding families’ goals, values and culture.

4. What assignments did you find beneficial? Why or Why not?

The assignment I didn’t feel beneficial was the Resource Booklet. Even when we were allow to copy and paste the agencies from the Interviews assignment, many agencies change their name or disappears due to the lack of resources. Then, it’s much easier to find any agency through google.
5. Please frankly, write any other comments and suggestions that might improve the course, all input is appreciated.

Child Development courses are very interesting and necessary to understand why children act in the way they do, and to become better educators. However, without the option of online courses, would be very difficult for me to take them.
Thank you for your teaching Professor

This semester I took a class that was new to me. I knew absolutely nothing about journalism coming into MMC2100. The most valuable assignments were the AP practices. Although I was frustrated because I bought the online access to the www.apstylebook.com which ended up not having page numbers for some assignments. In the end, the constant use of AP style helped make it come more natural for some bigger projects further along in the semester.…

This course has helped my this semester in many ways, such as preparing me for career fair and reminding me to stay organized. The book is also very helpful because it talks about real life examples and is relatable. For career fair, it was nice to have an edited resume and to have a guide for our elevator speeches. The worksheets that show us how we use our time are nice because you can really see how much time you waste. I believe that this class keeps our hall a little closer, and helps us get to know each other better.…

I like the part where we have a certain of time to finish quizzes and discussions to receive a grade. That's a good thing but, at the same time I don't like it for the reason that I'm also taking 4 other classes that I have to be present and I get out until night for the reason that I had to get my classes to fit my little sisters schedule to take care of her when my parents are at work. The course can improved by having daily reminders for what's…

Junior year I decided to simultaneously take AP biology and anatomy, which was difficult at times because both subjects heavily provide a lot of information. Overall, I looked forward towards learning about the human body because I genuinely wanted to know how the body works together to support itself. One notable challenge I had in anatomy was constantly taking assessments based off of the articles and what we learned. The class itself was fast-paced, which pushed me to devote more time towards studying and testing myself, allowing me to retain more information and prepare for tests. Of course that class changed me by causing me to develop studying habits whether if it was using quizlet and reviewing my notes, to watching YouTube lectures…

Literary Explorations 1, a class that all sophomores are required to take during their first semester, has been a very beneficial class for me. Over the course of LE 1, I feel that I have developed as a writer and as a critical thinker when analyzing works of literature ranging from songs to short stories to speeches. I have gained valuable insight throughout the semester by learning about rhetorical devices, the rhetorical triangle, and the many aspects of writing. However, LE1 has also shown me the many parts of reading and writing that I struggle with and hope to improve in the future. Over the course of the semester, LE 1 has been an interesting class that has made me both a better writer and a better person.…

When I first began this class I thought that this would be just another introductory class that is required to orient you to the expectations of the particular college. Now, after completing this class, I know that this is not the case. Personal Dimensions of Learning has been a great help, not only to my school work, but also in my daily life. Before taking this class, I thought that learning, and completing daily tasks, were mostly memorizing the order of the way things are supposed to be done and just completing the task. I never liked this strategy, but it always seemed to be the most convenient way to get things done at school, home, and work.…

When I examined my completed ePortfolio, I saw a significant amount of growth and changes in my study habits. First of all, I noticed that my time management skills have become much improved from the beginning of the semester. For example, I used to just try to remember my daily and weekly schedules in my brain before I knew of a good way to make a schedule, and it caused me to constantly forget plans and homework or be late to them. Now that I make weekly schedules on my laptop, I do not forget things as much, and my brain no longer has to work itself so hard to remember my schedule and everything I am learning in school at the same time. Secondly, I also saw a positive change in my annotations and note-taking skills.…

Experiencing a course that is new is both intimidating and challenging at the same time. The realization of taking a harder class made me change my studying habits as well as doing independent learning to fully understand the concept of the materials that were given. Even though people say, ”You should get out of your comfort zone and do something different “ is something that I was afraid of since it was not something I used to; but I learned that every once in awhile people should take a risk and be open minded in everything they do. Taking my first AP class was something that changed my life for the better in realizing how different high school teaching is from college teaching. I was always fascinated in chemistry when I took the course during sophomore year; learning about how chemical react with one another creating something phenomenon and learning how a reaction takes place in a microscopic levelled me to take AP Chemistry.…
