Brad Henry once said, “A good teacher can inspire hope, ignite the imagination, and instill a love of learning.” I am currently a freshman studying to obtain a degree in Food Science and Nutrition at Clemson University. I became interested in this major because it is my desire to serve and help others. My brother was diagnosed in 1993 at the age of three with Celiac Disease, and his life has been affected by the foods he can and cannot eat. He has been on a Gluten Free diet for twenty-one years, and this diet is the key to a healthy lifestyle for him. As I grew up, I watched my mother research and prepare meals for my brother. I have always had an interest in food and health and had the desire to gain knowledge to help people improve their quality of life. I thought I would enjoy being able to aide in assessing, diagnosing, and treating people with diet related problems. …show more content…
In addition, I have decided that I should aspire to do something with my life that I am really passionate about. After considering what truly interests me, I feel that a degree in Early Childhood Education would allow me to fulfill my desire to serve and help others while working with young children at the same time. Throughout the years, I have thoroughly enjoyed working and interacting with children, and my experiences with them include: being a tutor, volunteering at Vacation Bible School, babysitting, and leading and organizing a Jr. Cheerleading Camp for children ages four through

Personal Philosophy I believe that all children are unique and bring their own knowledge and experiences to any educational environment. I believe the early childhood environment is a place for children to be free agents to; develop, learn, grow and express themselves, while having the confidence and respect they as a person are entitled to. Furthermore I also belie that all children have the right to learn and their learning be abundant with experiences, knowledge and quality, as well as feeling a sense of belonging to their community and learning environment. These beliefs are important to my teaching and my philosophy of early childhood eduction.…

I think people who are studying to be a nutritionist or in health fields programs, if they can come in and mentor undergraduate students who would then mentor. Like having a tier mentorship, who then mentor high school students and them mentoring middle school students. I feel like that would be really helpful to just give the people the knowledge and skills that they need to make healthy decisions that are right for them. I think that is really important and given people that agency and disseminating information, in general, just about food, nutrition, but not necessarily in way that this is good for you and this is bad for you, because everyone body is different and everyone has different lifestyles, practices, and beliefs. Just really kind of providing an overall, general food nutrition knowledge seminar mentorship thing.…

I entered into the education system at the age of 4 at the West Orange Community House in West Orange, New Jersey. It was an intensified non-profit preschool program. Before going to preschool, I was filled with many different emotions such as excitement, but nervousness as well. Staying away from home for a long amount of time during the day was something I had never done before, so it was very scary, but I was ready. I remember my dad would drop me off every day and I would be sent to the cafeteria to eat breakfast.…

I believe that being an administrator is a very dutiful job that should not be taken lightly. After being in the administration class, I can see the joy that some administrators take in their jobs. While it is not always sunshine and rainbows for administrators, they are able to create environments for children to learn through play and gain the best education possible. Since administrators do not always spend time with the children daily, it is important for them to have an excellent understanding of child development and current theories to provide equipment and environment that is beneficial and promotes learning through play. As an administrator in an early childhood education setting it is important to have a vast understanding of what…

Jordyn Eldred Personal Statement Kindergarten, such a simple time in our lives, we nap, we play dress up, and we run around laughing on the playground. Kindergarten at my school meant it was the first taste you will get in furthering your knowledge not only on subjects like reading, writing, and arithmetic, but also in religion. To ensure that our knowledge on religion was expanding, the school gave the little one's older buddies. I had two buddies, one that I was afraid of and Ellen, who I looked up to and learned a lot from. She was a sweet, caring leader, who put others first, and overall was an inspiration.…

For the past year, I have been working full-time at WIC where my responsibilities include providing nutrition education and services to low-income women and their children. Through this position, I work with registered dietitians, utilize written care plans, and practice effective counseling techniques to ensure that our clients begin to make positive dietary changes. Working at Woodward Hills with a registered dietitian gave me experience with therapeutic and mechanically altered diets and the knowledge to ensure patients receive proper nutrition to address their individual health conditions. It was rewarding to assist in teaching a Cooking Matters course where students appreciated the opportunity to learn about the best foods to feed their families to prevent disease and improve their health within the constraints of a severely limited food budget. Each of these experiences has inspired me to pursue additional education in the field of…

Pre-kindergarten programs and early childhood education is of the utmost importance to four year old children. At the age of four, children must have their minds engaged and developed cognitively. Cognitive development at early ages will stimulate children in their reasoning, problem solving and memory. Preschool environments can provide such stimulating experiences. According to “How Preschool Fights Poverty”, preschools have educational tools that could kick-start cognitive development-sets of blocks and fascinating puzzles; fantastic or mundane costumes for dramatic play; wildly colorful picture books telling amazing stories (Lamy).…

I will become an Early Childhood Education teacher one day. The type of teacher I will be is dependent on my type of philosophy. My philosophy will help me determine crucial aspects like how I want my classroom set up, the different ways I will teach my students, what kinds of goals and decisions I will make, and ultimately what I want my students to take out of my class when the end of the year comes. To some degree, I am a combination of all the types of philosophies: essentialist, perennialist, progressivist, existentialist, and behaviorist. However, I have one type of philosophy that stands out most: progressivist.…
