Early Childhood Education is the first stepping stone for students to become a student of their fullest potential. Becoming students at a young age provides more opportunity for growth. I believe that these are excellent programs for all children, but also leave room for adjustments. Depending on the educator, there are some situations where students are not taught content that is rich in curriculum, and more less treat these programs as being a babysitter for students. And then we have the polar opposite situation; where some students are being expected to learn curriculum that is too advanced for them, and the students are memorizing the content rather than exploring and evaluating the curriculum.
The great part about Early Childhood Education is that it not only develops a child’s cognitive development, but it also develops a child’s social, emotional, and physical development. I want students to express themselves and know this is acceptable. I will be teaching content rich material, but I do not want students to see their education as being boring and as a job. I want students to enjoy learning, and to enjoy exploring new things. I was at a school that focused more on test scores and making sure the school qualified for certain grants and such off of our scores. At this point education was not fun to me, it was a bore, I was not receiving anything individually from this education. It felt like the education was only benefiting the school and not me as a student. And it will be with my greatest most effort for students to know, their education is only for them.
