Could a photo of a family in a house show suffering? Dorothea Lange’s Living Conditions of Workers in Agriculture on whom Depend the Crops of California, Family of Migratory Cotton Pickers, Originally for Oklahoma, Living in Abandoned Cow Barn, Note Bed in Corner, Kern County, California (Family in Barn) offers an unusual view of Dust Bowl migrant workers that were displaced due to agricultural damage. Unlike many of her other photographs, Family in Barn does not depict squatters, or struggling workers, or even the outside conditions that many others were subjected to and it makes the viewer wonder how this family’s dilapidated house and seemingly ordinary life fits into the unseen, harsh outside world. Family in Barn makes the viewer sympathize…

It is important to evaluate whether or not the EYPP is making a difference to the children who need it the most. In the early years observations take place to assess where a child currently is working within according to the EYFS. This is where a good relationship between the setting and family would make a difference. A knowledgeable key person will know their key child’s starting points and will be able to track their progress through their assessments. In May 2015 OFSTED began including children receiving EYPP in their inspections.…

Babies Observations: Births In the movie Babies there were vast differences when it came to the birthing process. Namibia babies were born in a dirt floored hut, and were put to the breast right away, but there was no swaddling nor medical intervention. The Mongolian baby was born in a hospital and after birth was swaddled rather tightly and put in its own incubator as mom looked on, and going home for this baby was on the back of a motorcycle, swaddled tightly, while being held in mother’s arms. The San Francisco baby was also swaddled, though not as tight, born in a hospital hooked up to monitors and put to the breast with skin to skin contact right away.…

I completed my infant observation at the University Child Development Center. The University Child Development Center specializes in childcare for infants all the way up to children age 12. The infant I observed was about eight months of age and was placed in a classroom that usually has a relatively small number of infants for better one on one attention. As I completed my observation, I observed all five developmental domains which include physical, emotional and social, cognitive, adaptive, and language and communication.…

Some were flipping through picture books, others were doing crafts, and one particular boy, was playing with dinosaurs. This boy’s name was Ben and I decided to focus my attention on him. Throughout this hour I took note on his level of social, emotional, and physical development in order to determine his chronological age.…
