My mother called my name asking how my ear felt, but as soon as she walked in the door, she saw the blood. My mom never liked the sight of blood, so she had my dad look at the bloody ear. My dad then told my mom to get an appointment at the clinic in Faith. I was sent to school for an hour only to be checked out. My mom and I reached the clinic at 10:00 to fill out the paperwork. When my mom was done filling out the paperwork the nurse called me into the room, where I waited for the doctor. When Dr. Eric Ottencacher finally came in he looked into my ear only to find that it was covered in dried blood. After they cleaned out my ear the found out it was punctured.
When we found out, my mom booked an appointment at Rapid City Medical Center. My mom called the clinic immediately. My appointment was the following Friday, but I still had a basketball tournament on Saturday in Rapid City that I really didn’t want to miss. I wasn’t completely sure if I would be able to ignore my ear aches and play basketball, but I wanted to try. Friday morning we left for Rapid to see if I would need surgery. I stayed awake for most of the trip. When we arrived, we were early so they checked into our hotel room at Howard Johnson. The hotel was across the street where I would play

Perspective 1 (Me): Allergies drove me crazy as I waited my turn for the Star Drill at softball practice. I saw it coming in high compared to Tess' small frame, and got prepared for the ball coming at us. Tess jumped up to get the ball, tipped it off her glove, and next thing I knew I was on the ground.…

My neck looked like a skinless chicken breast. It took less than a second for me to go into a full blown panic attack while my parents scrambled to get me to the nearest Walgreens. Once we returned home, I went to the doctor’s office. Initially they asked my dad to step out of the room and asked me questions about how it actually happened; implying that my parents had abused me. Beer smells disgusting; I've hated the smell since I was 6. Weekly, my dad would come home from his construction job and spend time with his best friends Budweiser, Bud Light, and Corona. I hated seeing my father intoxicated because he wasn't the same person drunk, for the alcohol consumed his soul as if a demon possessed him.…

I have been keeping a secret from my loved ones, but I wanted to share it tonight to kick off the start of PMDD awareness month which starts on April 1st. I was diagnosed with PMDD in November 2017 and for me to publicly share that with you is scary, and it makes me feel very vulnerable. Most importantly I wanted to share my story because PMDD doesn't have that much exposure and I wanted the women who related to my experience to go to their doctors with some knowledge and be able to speak up and be comforted that this is a real medical condition. Please seek help if you believe you have PMDD.…

Hearing loss in teenagers is up 30 percent from the 1980s and 1990s. While in-ear headphones were first introduced in the 1980s, they didn’t become widely popular until the early 2000s when the iPod came out. “Many experts believe it [increased percent of hearing loss] is due... to the increased use in headphones” (American Osteopathic Association). This is a plausible explanation seeing as music seems to be more available and used more often. Hearing loss due to exposure is a growing concern.…
