Eadlyn is sitting in her room with her maid talking about her husband. Eadlyn is curious about his job because of the caste that used to exist. She unintentionally insults Neena and she leaves without a word. Eadlyn is shocked that she left without curtsying or apologizing. However, this shows an example of Eadlyn’s conceitedness, “Just because Neena was in a bad mood didn’t mean she could get out of her work. I could take care of myself, and she could clean tomorrow” (180). Eadlyn did not showing sympathy for Neena even though she should have; she insulted her then didn’t apologize.
Eadlyn can also be bossy and at some times, even condescending as looks down upon some people below her. It is implied that she is also a perfectionist, always wanting her appearance and everything and everyone around her to be perfect too. Eadlyn, herself, admits that “I’m not as good at showing my emotions as other girls, so it comes across like I don’t care, even when I do. I like to keep things to myself. It looks bad, I know, but it’s real” (298). Even though she is trying to be perfect, she realizes some of her flaws throughout the book and this helps her develop emotions she has never came in contact
