My hands are anxiously trembling, as I unopen my letter from Eastern Washington University. As I open the letter, the first words my eyes came across was "Congratulations on your acceptance to EWU Fall quarter 2014!" I remember being extremely happy. I accepted to attend EWU. In August, a month before move in day, everything changed. I wasn't going to attend EWU anymore due to financial reasons. I remember being extremely upset over this. My dreams were crushed, I was supposed to be the first one in my whole entire family generation to attend a 4-year university. I had no back up choice school to attend. It was too late to register for a community college and be able to get financial aid. I had to skip a quarter of college. A couple months …show more content…
This was very upsetting, because I spent a year and a half working on nursing prerequisites. It was summer 2016, I researched for days trying to find a new major that involved working with the public and healthcare. I'm extremely passionate about helping sick people. I want to ensure that patients get the best healthcare when they are admitted. As I researched, I came across a Healthcare Administrator. I found that their duties are exactly what I'm seeking for in a career. As of now, I'm currently aiming for a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Health and a Masters in Healthcare Administration. By attending UW, it will help me prepare for my career by offering me the best education in order to be successful for my career path as a Healthcare Administrator. As of right now, I'm not prepared to my major due to prerequisites. There are courses at UW that I have to take, in order to get into the Public Health major. My plans for preparing are to take the four required courses. I plan on taking the courses, Autumn and Winter quarter. Culture has impacted my academic life. I'm Mexican- American. I've been raised here my whole life but most of my family lives in

I chose to attend Wor-Wic Community College because of the support system that Wor-Wic has to offer. I applied to the school and attended it while I was injured with a traumatic knee injury and the staff really proved to me that they cared. I had surgery the first week of classes,so I emailed my teacher and they were all understanding and extremely helpful in accommodating to my needs. The late computer lab hours really helped me to be able to get my school work done after my night classes ended. Everywhere that I go I advocate for Wor-Wic because it is truly more than an institution, it is like another family to me.…

I hope to gain an exemplary foundational career experience from the EKU REU program. I was initially attracted to this program because the theme of disturbance ecology complements my own research interests in anthropogenic influence and conservation biology. Through individual research this summer and the research of others, I hope to learn more about the impact of human activity on landscapes, how to approach restoration, and what sustainable and effective scientific study looks like. I am excited to live in Kentucky and learn about its ecology and sociology, having never been to the area before. In addition, I hope to gain practical field and laboratory research skills at Lilley Cornett Woods old-growth forest ecosystem and Maywoods Environmental…

The summer before senior year of high school, I spent three weeks on a Brown University Pre-College Program, traveling to numerous Spanish cities, including Madrid, Córdoba, Salamanca, Seville, and Segovia. Every day, we were confronted with another challenge, such as the language barrier and the one hundred degree, dry heat, but these obstacles were outweighed by the various unique cultures of the country. The love of food and music, historical architecture that has been influenced by so many countries and cultures, wild and diverse landscapes, and passionate people evoked my love of traveling, new experiences and immersion in diverse cultures. A few months after this defining trip, I began applying to over ten colleges and universities, even though I knew exactly which school I wanted to attend.…
