The ESO artifact I chose for standard #10 is an on-line training course for, Implementing Math for ESL Students. The videos provided information on how to teach the ESL students math. The strategies used would assure success for the ESL students. As the teacher, I am responsible for every one of my student’s learning; collaborating with the families, my colleagues, other school professionals, and community members to ensure learner growth, and to advance the profession. I will use visuals, speak slowly and allow time for the students to answer questions. I will continue to take professional development classes to keep updated on any new materials. I will use pictorial math, (visual) the internet (audio) and many hands- on activities (kinesthetic)

Description of the artifact I created this artifact for my Health, Safety, and Nutrition for Young Children class taught by Dr. Hilbert. This assignment was the Advocacy assignment. I had to pick a topic that dealt with an issue related to the health and safety of young children, and then take a stand for what ever topic I choice. For this I chose the nutritional values of meals served at school, in particular Walters Public schools. I chose this because, the eating habits that children set up at a young age will follow them for a life time .…

Standard number eight although similar to standard number seven works to highlight the importance it is for the educator to be aware of their students. By taking into consideration the students, the instructor is able to develop instructional strategies that help develop student’s skills. However, the instructor must also take into consideration that not all students learn the same way, while some learn better visually others learn audibly, and others hands on. In the article by Mimi Miller and Nancy Veatch, they describe the importance of instructional strategies and their role in helping student master skills.…

Go math and the Journey’s textbook are two resources that could be used in the classroom to enhance student learning. Go math books are used as worksheet books in which the students completes to learn the math standards that the district has set. I use this to teach the students their math facts, like counting by 10s and grouping as well as place value. This supports student learning because I use these books to model what they, the students, should be doing and how to do it, but it also helps me to see which students can do it on their own, and which ones would need additional support. The Journey’s textbook are also district assigned texts that all the grades are using, I could use this to help students learning, by reading the stories from…

Instead of presenting the lesson material and concepts with my students through myself giving direct instruction, I will now experiment and have my students watch instructor pre selected videos that correspond to the academic subject matter and content topic that the students will be learning. While the students are watching the videos, I will have my students take notes about the video. For my ELL students, I will differentiate this process by instructing them specifically to focus on the historical figures from the videos to take notes on as this will be more relevant for what they will use to report in demonstrating what they have learned in their summative assessment. For my non-ELL students, I will instruct them to take notes with a greater emphasis about sequences of change over time that affect the development of a particular civilization or historical outcome. It is my hope by making this change of differentiation of instruction that my students will be more stimulated and engage with the learning material where they will be able to demonstrate what they have…

Last summer I partnered with another educator from my school to craft a multisession mini course for Math for America. The course met over a three month period and focussed on teaching educators from the Metro New York area about the symmetries of a sphere using an ancient japanese art form called Temari. I used our organization’s shared digital message board called the small world network to post and share an overview of our course in the spring course catalog and invited 15-20 teachers to sign up for the three day mini course. Each session was set for two hours The first session provided participants with basic information about the history and connections between the art we would be analyzing and science and mathematics. Participants were…

Upon reflection of the EDF5141 Health unit. I believe it has assisted me in gaining some skills which will result in helping me reach my goals as a teacher. These goals I have for myself align with two Australian Professional Teaching Standards (APST) by the AITSL. These include ‘knowing the content and how to teach it’ and ‘plan for and implement effective teaching and learning’. ‘Knowing the content and how to teach it’ is a standard from the Professional Knowledge section and talks about the knowledge you have for the subject and understanding how it should be taught which suits the learning style of the students whilst aligning with the Australian government's requirements.…

‘Many teachers use the “one size fits all” approach where all students receive the same instruction irrespective of their specific needs; however…this style of teaching benefits only a few students’ (Cavanagh & Prescott, 2015. P.150). This assignment will agree that using a one size fits all approach to teaching will only benefit a few students. Embracing classroom inclusiveness, differentiation and the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (APSTs) will guide us as teachers to appreciate the diversity of our learners and inspire, motivate and engage them to achieve their individual successes. The concept of ‘One size fits all’ will not allow for equality for the students, nor a simple task for a teacher.…
