I’m applying for this job not only for the experience but also because I had a really positive experience with EOP. The transition from high school to college was definitely challenging however, all the resources offered to me definitely made it a lot easier. Knowing that I could get help from the program and all the mentors made UCSB feel a lot more comfortable thus I want to be apart of it and help other students feel the same. My work experience is very limited, however, the experiences I gained from volunteering will help excel in this position. We had to contact the school in order to make a morning announcement to the students and we also took the extra step by talking to the teachers and asking them for help. Through all our efforts we were able to collect over 600 pairs of jeans. Another instance would be over the summer, I was given the chance to be the volunteer coordinator at my local soup kitchen, Loaves and Fishes. Since there was a lot new volunteers over the summer, my responsibility was to show them around and assign them certain tasks. There were a lot of things that needed to be done and I had to make sure that not everyone was doing the same job. For my sixty hours of volunteer work I decided to volunteer at a Child Life Center which was in a poverty stricken area in Norfolk, Va. At the child life center my job as a volunteer was to assist the children with their homework, help the staff monitor the children on local field trips, as well as serve as a positive role model for the children. The experience I had at Park Place Child Life Center was one I will honestly never forget. Although I didn’t get any actual counseling experience, I was able to learn the ways that the non-profit organization received their funding, I was able to gain experience in working with the youth, and I was also able to make a positive impact on the lives of children who were considered “at-risk youth”. To go there every day and be able to see the change the children had in their behaviors and how much just some attention and affection from adults impacted their behaviors was honestly amazing.…
