The two assessments that measure early literacy skills for students in grades K-2 are Early Literacy Skills Assessment (ELSA) by High/Scope and the Children’s Progress Academic Assessment (CPAA). The ELSA evaluates his or her understanding, “phonological awareness, the alphabet principle, and concepts (DeBruin-Parecki, 2005).” This process consists of three separate forms that are to be completed by the assessor throughout several evaluation activities.
