ELA-Literacy In The Classroom

One assumption that I would have made in day three would be that students know how to write a well written paragraph with grammar alone, not including the point of view they will be including in the paragraph. During eighth grade they know how to write and read, but there may still be a need to clarify the components of sentences and paragraph form. The reason for my assumption that the students could write a sufficient paragraph was that in seventh grade students are able to CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.7.1 Cite several pieces of textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text. Since that 70% of school districts throughout the United States reported local increases in student homelessness during this period (National Association for the Education of Homeless Children and Youth [NAEHCY]/First Focus, 2010.) Even if the students do have a place to stay they may not have access to a computer or internet. Having these facts shown, this was a reason why I didn’t want to have any of my students not able to complete their work due to outside resources. Many CBLEs allow for a high degree of learner control and opportunities for self-directed learning (Williams 1996). Using a computer base learning system could be more beneficial to motivated students, but if the students from previous years have not used computer based programs then they would have to build their schemes and go through disequilibrium to learn have to figure out their self-regulatory learning. I thought that it would be easier for students to work on their schemes with reading and writing in a certain point of view then working on the computer with different

As a 7th grader at Fowler Middle School’s state of the art Gifted and Talented program, Nitish Baskar has recently written an analytical CBAP over a revolutionary invention. After a couple of weeks, he revisited this CBAP along with his classmates and looked to find improvements that will help them with the writing STAAR. To enhance their understanding of expository passages, they were assigned writing stations which focused on ideas, organization, development of ideas, word choice/conventions, and sentence fluency. After thorough realization and days of working, Nitish Baskar’s understanding of expository essays expanded and he realized that focusing on one controlling idea, adding more sentence variations, and developing commentary to back up evidence is crucial to sounding more professional and responding to the prompt strongly.…

In the article ‘Why Kids Can’t Write’, Dana Goldstein, an education writer for The New York Times, reports on how teachers are avoiding basic grammar and writing skills in the classroom and how some teachers are going to do to change that. Judith C. Hochman, Founder of an organization called the Writing Revolution, displayed examples of students work. She says, “It all starts with a sentence.” Hochman focuses on the fundamentals of grammar but many educators are less concerned with sentence-level mechanics and more concerned about children drawing inspiration from their own lives for their writing. According to the most recent study done by the National Assessment of Educational progress three-quarters of both 12th and 8th graders lack proficiency…

It’s interesting, really, to see some of my old papers from middle and high school. I look back and laugh at the time, maybe around the third grade, when my classmates and I would groan and complain about having to write an ENTIRE PARAGRAPH. Now, after years of writing significantly longer academic papers that stretch far beyond a simple paragraph, my style and the depth of my topics have evolved based on what I’ve read. The most important pastime for anyone who wishes to write, unsurprisingly, is to read a wide variety of material, starting at a young age. Studies have shown that children who read more than their peers exhibit a larger vocabulary as well as more complex writing styles.…

I teach "Introduction to Literature" and "Standard Freshman Composition" courses at Suffolk County Community College. I personally design both of my courses, which adhere to the mission statement of the college. In "Introduction to Literature," my students engage in imaginative works of literature, analyze major literary themes and forms, continue training in effective prose writing skills, and demonstrate maturity and thought and style when deconstructing literary elements such as image, plot, character, theme, and conflict. In "Standard Freshman Composition," I prepare my students to produce quality work that utilizes writing techniques, analyzes reading material, and incorporates research techniques that will aide them in their academic future. The outcomes of this course are for the student to be able to construct a central purpose in their expository work, to have coherent organization, improved writing mechanics, to formulate effective thesis statements that demonstrate complex thought, and to integrate relevant, cited sources into their work.…

When it comes to writing an essay, I always hate and ignore because I didn’t know how to develop a paragraph. Moreover, I thought that reading and writing have completely a different task in writing an essay. However, after taking English 111, I come to know that reading and writing are equally important to form a beautiful essay. The fundamental knowledge I get in this class is that reading is important because it helps to create an argument and write an essay. Similarly, from English 111 class I learned lots of new things like creating an argument, writing rhetorical analysis essay and writing synthesis essay.…

Motivation is divided into intrinsic and extrinsic factors that encourage passion and vitality in people to be continually interested and committed to an activity or to make an effort to attain a goal. When people are intrinsically motivated to do a task, they will start the task on their own, keep on doing the task on their own, and furthermore improve it. For many numbers of reasons, it’s better for society and for each person when people participate freely of their own will, meaning when people take initiatives. Self-efficacy is similar to motivation; I already discussed it briefly for teachers, now let’s see how it is applied for students. Computer Technology (CT) makes learning more relevant, meaningful, and enjoyable; consequently, academic…
