EDGE Final Reflection
The idea of hiking in a tropical rain forest has peaked my interest since I was a child. Having never traveled in the southern hemisphere, I had a craving to see what this side of the world had to offer. Nicaragua exploration demanded peak physical fitness, a swift learning of basic Spanish skills, and working knowledge of what not to eat.
It took quite a few steps to complete my project. First was choosing a destination, then researching Nicaragua to ensure safety while traveling. For the submission of my completed project, I made video collage of all the footage I was able to capture.I also had to do everything from renewing my passport, to getting new vaccinations, and even approval

Detaching myself from the world around me to look in as a third party exposed the culture I have been raised into. To complete this assignments I went to Mirror Lake on campus to observe and document the social behaviors I witnessed. I recorded over a two day span. I first sat by the northern side of the lake on the stone fence, to be aloof from what was transpiring in front of me. The second day I sat on the western side on the grass under the trees to get right in the middle of what was happening.…

By 1913, former President Theodore Roosevelt had been out of the White House for four long years, his bid for a surprising third term ended in a defeat to Woodrow Wilson when he is forced to run as a third party candidate and now he's lacking a sense of purpose. He jumps at the opportunity to journey to Brazil as part of a scientific journey of discovery sponsored by the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. During the planning stages, the trip undergoes changes from one that would be mostly ceremonial in nature for the still greatly admired former President to one of only moderate difficulty, finally becoming an ambitious but arduous exploration of nearly one thousand miles of uncharted Amazonian jungle wilderness. The planning of the trip goes very badly with unnecessary and impractical supplies and various useless modes of transportation due to the many evolutions the trip has undertaken. And yet the selection of members of the expedition may have been even worse than the requisitioning of provisions.…

My first initial impression of the novel was quite surprising. First of all, this story is not like most slave narratives. For instance, Equiano had a very close relationship with his masters and captains, “he was to me a friend and a father” (Equiano 110). Although, it is hard to remember which master he belongs to as he is telling his story. Perhaps, Equiano might be doing this on purpose so that we understand how many times he was sold and traded throughout his life.…

I have mixed feelings on how to react to Wolters’ writing. Wolters takes what may seem like something that all reformational Christians should already know and reinforces this classical worldview in a useful way. The musings of Wolters have been the integral backbone of my entire educational experience over my years at Dordt. However, I have never been formally introduced to these concepts before starting college. This may be obvious to anyone who knows me, but up until a couple of years ago, I had never heard of the terms, “reformational,” “worldview,” “structure and direction,” or even “creation, fall, redemption.…
