In ED when working I get a much better compliance and willingness from patients and families when explaining what I'm about to do and why. Offering them options in ways the task can be done or approached lessens anxiety and increases a readiness. Including patients and families in the process and open communication gives patients a direction of what needs to be accomplished and how the goal will be met.
