• Daily routines and written schedule: Time must be built in to allow planned and unplanned events to protect the substantial portion of the day devoted to free play; this includes transition time and any routines that may be included as a choice during free play (snack time, trips to the restroom, etc.). For instance, if you serve snack as a choice during free play, additional time must be added to your time allocated for free play activities, and secure your scores related to the physical environment.
Please be aware that free play does not start until every child has the opportunity to engage in free play. For example, when your children transition from a large group time to free play, your substantial portion of the day begins when all children choose where , what and with whom they may play.
• Small group activities during free play: Small group activities may be incorporated as a free play choice, as long as children make the choice of starting and concluding their participation in the activity.
• Special education services during free play: Special education services (push in), may be incorporated into free play as long as the child may choose where, what and with whom he/she may
