He was born in Whiteville, Hardeman County on Dec. 27. He grew up in a small household that was one the lesser side of his hometown. At the age of 27 he served as a clerk at Dr. S. H. Caldwell and A.B. Mitchum’s pharmacy on the courthouse square in Paris trying to make a few extra dollars. That pharmacy jump started Grove’s career as a pharmacist. Edwin Grove lived an amazing life that influenced so many things and people.
His death was served proudly and his life will not be forgotten. E. W. Grove died in his Battery Park Hotel in Asheville in 1927, and his body was sent to the place that started it all, Paris, Tennessee. Because he had explored so many different kinds of business, his death certificate simply listed his job as “capitalist.” In 2006, Paris, Tennessee, hosted the Grove Centennial Celebration to celebrate and honor the century-old Grove School and the many local contributions of E. W. Grove.
E.W. Grove was truly an inspiration to so many people. He gave people so much from donating to schools and businesses to following his dream and becoming a very successful druggist creating new medicines with somewhat weird slogans.
