After Edwin made a move to Memphis Tennessee he began to study the field that had intrigued him,pharmacy. Once he’d completed years of school,Grove opened his first pharmacy at Paris Tennessee ,where he'd also worked as a clerk at a drugstore when he was age twenty four. Here he developed his tasteless chill tonic named Grove's Tasteless Chill Tonic. His tonic was a success! The tonic had gotten rid of the taste of quinine, an antimalarial drug that had a widely disliked taste. He’d also created “Grove's Bromo-Quinine tablets” these medicines gained Grove millions.

After making many adjustments he erected a new Battery Park Hotel. Like the Grove Park Inn, the Battery Park Hotel was a huge success! Not only was Grove successful in Asheville he also owned extensive property in St. Louis, St. Petersburg, and Atlanta. However it may seem groves life did not strictly revolve around business. He contributed to many charities and had also married two times. His first wife was Mary Louisa Moore they had two daughters together,Irma and Evelyn. Sadly, she’d passed away in 1883.After his wife’s death Grove then married a woman named Alice Gertrude Matthewson. They had three children together whose names were Hallett Hardin, Edwin Wiley, and Helen. Edwin Wiley grove passed away in 1927 at Asheville.
