Biology is and has always been a true love for Wilson. As Wilson himself has said that like any other true love, it stirs passion within him, has kept his interest for many years, and has promised him pleasure from a lifetime of devotion (“The Path to Follow” 52). That devotion has continued and is still present in Wilson. Instead of sitting idly by, he has chosen to dedicate his later years to saving the world for our descendants. In 2005, he launched the E.O. Wilson Biodiversity Foundation whose mission is “to foster a knowing stewardship of our world through biodiversity research and education initiatives that promote and inform worldwide preservation of our biological heritage. We believe that by enhancing our public understanding of biodiversity, we can foster a culture of stewardship in which people are inspired to conserve and protect the natural world” (E.O. Wilson Biodiversity Foundation). Wilson’s passion has guided him from a boy living in Mobile, Alabama collecting ants and butterflies to a world renowned …show more content…
Acceptance of others and their beliefs, and the realization that we are all one species who should not only support each other but also the world that we find ourselves living in. If we are accepting of others and their beliefs, the world might be able to put a stop to another kind of destruction, that of our own species, because for far too long we have fought and killed too many of our own for reasons so childish. Wilson’s words may seem a bit too optimistic, his own luck and success has made him too sure of himself, but what he hopes for something which we should all hope for. We should all hope to preserve our planet so that our grandkids can enjoy all the beauty that we have since been taking for granted, and we should all try to make a change so that we as a species may continue to grow and that our planet remains a home that supports and protects
