Most people think that e-gaming deteriorates the brain and cause people to be nothing but lazy and unproductive. In all actuality it really does no harm to the brain, and if anything it causes them to become healthier. On reason is that they cause people to become more social. In e-gaming, players must communicate from the beginning of the match all the way to the end. They have to talk about who will be what character, discuss strategies, and call out where help is needed. Another reason is that is challenges the brain by all of the thinking needing to be done for strategizing against what the other team is doing at any giving point in a match. In StarCraft you make an army, from different classes of soldiers, to command and out strategize your opponent from a top down point of view. The strategizing comes in at is when you decide what soldiers to use, and how you what to play the game. For instance, do you want to play with infiltrators and an offensive strategy or do you want to use bulkier characters and play defensive strategy. Even in the game you might have to readjust your plan to better combat your opponent. A study done by Queen Mary and University College London researchers found that StarCraft can improve cognitive flexibility in people who play it. In the study they had seventy-two volunteers who play games less than two hours a week. They took post-game psychological test, the study shows that the people who played the more complex version of the game performed better on the test (Glass, Maddox, Love, 2013). The study shows that the more complex and the more a game makes us think the better benefit it will have on our mind. Cognitive flexibility is the ability of people to readjust to different situations thrown at them. This can be very helpful when you are stuck on a problem because it helps you assess the situation and then to use the best possible solution with the best outcome or you.
