Nicotine Persuasive Speech

Jamestown: a land of opportunity and fortune for a newly created society, dependent on the revenue generated from a miracle crop known as Tobacco. Highly addictive and easy to grow and sell amongst the market, Tobacco products spread the influence of the drug “nicotine” throughout society in a market still growing strong today. However, the simple fact of the matter is that the liquid contains nicotine, and although the concentration of the nicotine is optional (even a lack-there-of nicotine is an option) the warnings for the product are the same for that of a standard nicotine product such as a cigarette. “With e-cigarettes we see a new product in the same industry – tobacco – using the same old tactics to glamorize their products”(Seward, Erika ALA speech). True as it may be, nicotine is harmful and addictive as most drugs are. Officials note that the consumption of nicotine is overall a negative influence to the health of the individual and the American (as well as international) front. Another major concern is the ease of access to these products. Seward speaks on behalf of most parents aware of the products when she notes that they are “concerned about the potential for kids to start a lifetime of nicotine use by starting with e-cigarettes” (Seward, Erika ALA speech). Teenagers have an increasingly active role in illegal activities, and electronic cigarettes were NOT considered a tobacco product in most states until this current year. In most cases, the seemingly harmful display of the electronic cigarette illustrated by the government and anti-tobacco organizations conveyed a sense of equal immorality as that of smoking an actual cigarette rather than a healthier alternative to the chemical death-sticks produced by tobacco companies. The strong discomfort of the government towards the “vaping” revolution sweeping the nation is seemingly ever-growing, and laws are constantly being set in place rapidly by state legislatures to prohibit the use of the product by minors and use of the product in public domains or state/city
