Dystopian Society
Anthem and “H.B.” are a Utopia society... right? In Anthem and “H.B.” they believe that they live in a Utopian society but they are blinded by the truth; and the truth is that they live in a Dystopian society. Because of this Anthem and “H.B.” have similarity’s and differences. One Similarity the have is that they can not love someone more than another. And a difference is that the kids in “H.B.” get to know their parents and in Anthem they don’t get to know them because they go to the palace of mating. Also in Anthem they only have 100 people born each year. Anthem is a Dystopia because they are not supposed to love anyone more than another. In Anthem this is said when …show more content…
We can tell that this is a fact because it talks about the day when the Handicap Police came to their house and took Harrison away from them “the H-G men took George and Hazel Bergeron’s fourteen-year-old son, Harrison, away.” (Vonnegut 1). This shows that even though they have to love each other as much as the next, they still can watch them grow. This proves that this book is a Dystopia because they can’t love their own child, the person that they gave birth to, more than their neighbor. In Anthem they can’t even see their dad or moms. This is proven when Equality talks about the Palace of Mating “Time of Mating...each of the men have one of the women assigned to them... women never see their children and children never know their parents.” (Rand 41) This proves that they never will know their parents/children. Another part of them mating is that they oly aloud 100 kids to be born during the winter, the dark side of that is that they will kill all the other babies that came after the 100th baby. There is one more dark part of them mating like they do and it is that they can’t choose to mate with, the Council of Eugenics chooses who goes with who. This proves that this is a Dystopia by making it easier to not let any one love another more by making sure they never see their kid and keep switching who goes with who during mating season. Extra: “Love your neighbor as yourself” (Mark 12:31). The quote from the Bible/Mark was used because thats what God wanted, everyone to be equal. This can relate to both of these story’s because that was there law, but if everyone loved their family’s just as much as their neighbor then that would take away the meaning of the word
