The Giver By Lois Lowry: Utopia Or Dystopia?

People have many views on if the book “The Giver” by Lois Lowry is a utopia or dystopia. After reading this book I would have to argue that the community in “‘The Giver” would be a dystopia. There are many reasons why I think this, like they don’t know what the meaning and/or feeling of pain. If you do three things wrong you are out, meaning you are died, you can choose to take your life at any time too. You don’t have really any freedom, you have to dress a certain way for your age group or can’t do something because they say you are too young. I would hate to live like this and this is way I’m going to convince you the same.

In the community that the people live in, they can’t feel pain. Meaning that they don’t know really what death is and they haven’t experience physical pain ether. In reality everyone is the some and a whole group a people who act the same is quite dull in my opinion. Everyone might be equal but they are equal in every aspect. If everyone is equal in everything and doing the same things than nothing new is being discovered. We should all be allowed to make mistakes in life that’s the only way we can learn as humans. There is nothing interesting going on in the life’s of those people, so you know what’s going on in practically everyone’s life.

In conclusion, I fell very strongly that this community would be a dystopia. You can’t grow as a human, everyone would be the same and nothing new and existing would happen. People who live like that are truly not human. Everyone should have rights to their own life and how they want to live it. Wouldn’t you want to choose your own life that you

At this ceremony people are called out by name with their age group and celebrate with an award that they receive for becoming this age. Everyone in the same age group receives only one present and it is the same present for all of the people in that age group.
