The time commitment worried my teachers because they thought homework and tutoring would become less of a focus. In the moment, I was unaware that my mother was convinced to keep me in dance classes to provide a distraction and safe environment for me to roam without the stress of school. As a result, sticking with dance impacted my life tremendously. I have grown to use dance as an outlet for expressing feelings and being myself while fitting in with the scenery around me. Not once has dyslexia affected what I do in the studio. Henceforth, I began to introduce myself as a dancer who attends high school in my free time. With that said, dance never conflicted with the strive I had to get a college degree in education. The colleges I considered to attend were based on two main factors, being able to continue dancing and being able to continue learning. Here and there participating in dance auditions, The Boise State Dance team audition was the most challenging. I fell in love with Boise State University. Ultimately, realizing my blessings, I took advantage of all I had, resulting in a 4.0 GPA and leadership recognition on the dance team. While scholarships for a freshman on the team fluctuate. My awarded scholarship due to my accomplishments first semester convinced me that I am doing something right. I am able to pay my college without bringing my single mother into debt. Through the scholarship I received through the Boise State Dance team, I have gained confidence in applying for more, in hope to reduce stress on my family so that my two little brothers will have money for further education. After being discouraged from the label of having a learning disability, receiving this scholarship has risen me up to announce my achievements while accepting my
