After her mother was able to successfully get her to the hospital, Rex Walls and Rose Mary Walls ended up “rescuing” there daughter from the hospital. The following day, Jeanette was making hot dogs. Her mother saw this and instead of cooking them for her, or telling her to wait until she was older to start preparing hot dogs again: Her mother simply said, “Good for you…You’ve got to get right back in the saddle.” At three years old, “supervising” their children was not something Jeannette’s parents do. Jeannette became fascinated with fire and her parents encouraged her to not be afraid of fire but to welcome it: “You can’t live in fear of something as basic as fire.” Her parents do not believe in protecting their children from life's unfortunate incidents, instead they encourage them to have those experiences and overcome them: “She already fought the fire once and won.”
