Billy McMahon (Vince Vaughn) and Nick Campbell (Owen Wilson) play the role of two matured salesmen who are left without a job after their company is liquidated. The now desperate partnership take some time to find their ways. Nick decides to work for his soon-to-be brother-in-law who owns a mattress shop. Billy on the other hand decides to take the initiative of “googling” for jobs to suit his qualifications - or lack thereof. The unlikely dream duo find themselves in an unfortunate predicament when they find out that there aren't any jobs available for either of them. Billy decides to take the initiative to enrol the two of them at The University of Phoenix which is an online institution, but not so that they can learn, so that they can apply for an internship at the magnificent Google Inc HQ in California. The first type of conflict we encounter is dysfunctional where the lead duo address their ex-employer somewhat violently. This could also be conflict due to change as the two main characters are forced to make massive life changes as they are now unemployed.
The second form of dysfunctional conflict is when the rest of Team Lyle ignores the duo due to their age and lack of skills. This is overcome after the quidditch match when they begin to function more as team then separate entities.
Functional conflict also occurs in the internship during the scene where they have a mental block. Billy blurts out ideas left and right which are useless to the rest of the group as these apps already exist. This conflict of ideas cause them to open up and be more expressive.
