Contamination is the presence of an unwanted impurity in a material.Contaminated water can be a source of deadly diseases, such as cholera and dysentery. Cholera an infectious disease that can cause severe watery diarrhea, dehydration, and death. Dysentery is an inflammation of the intestines, especially the colon, that often causes severe diarrhea with blood or mucus in the feces.

Impurity is the quality or condition of being impure.

Biological processes are the processes vital for a living organism to live, they are made up of any number chemical reactions or other events that result in chemical transformation. In this science project, you will experiment with a water filter column kit and see how it works to find out how effective it is at filtering color and visible particles from different kinds of liquids. The water filter column that comes in the kit has four sections: gravel, fine sand, activated carbon, and paper filter. The gravel allows water to pass through, but traps large particles. A particle is a minute fragment or quantity of matter. The sand allows water to pass through and traps smaller particles. The active carbon removes unwanted chemicals in the water through a process called adsorption, Adsorption is the adhesion of atoms, ions, or molecules from a gas, liquid, or dissolved solid to a surface. The last stage is a paper filter, which is effective at trapping oils. Many cities use water filters that are similar to the filter column you'll use in this science project. The additional step they take, however, is adding chemicals to the water to kill any pathogens, is anything which could make you sick. The presence of contaminants in water can lead to adverse health effects, including gastrointestinal illness, reproductive problems, and neurological disorders. Bacteria is a small microorganisms which cause diseases.A virus is a small infectious agent that …show more content…
Polio is a highly infectious disease caused by a virus. Infants, young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people whose immune systems are compromised because of AIDS, chemotherapy, or transplant medications, may be especially susceptible to illness from some contaminants. Giardia is a microscopic parasite that causes the diarrheal illness it is found on surfaces or in soil, food, or water that has been contaminated with feces (poop) from infected humans or animals. When you have diarrhea, your bowel movements (stools) are loose and watery. It’s very common and although it feels bad, it's usually not serious, you also get dehydrated. Three tools to clean water are filters they take the murky substances out of the water they also make it clarity the quality of water being clear to drink, boiling water and SOLAR DISTILLATION Not to be confused with solar sterilization or disinfection, solar distillation purifies even muddy, salty or otherwise undrinkable water through evaporation and condensation.Disinfection and sterilization are both decontamination processes. While disinfection is the process of eliminating or reducing harmful microorganisms from inanimate objects and surfaces, sterilization is the process of killing all microorganisms. That is the main difference between sterilizing and disinfecting. Some different types of water filters are Activated Carbon Filters, Reverse Osmosis ,

In order to identify common exposures, people were asked the same set of questions about their sources of drinking water, consumption of unpasteurized products, use of water fountain, and swimming in a lake or a river. Spatial analysis was used to examine the location identified from the interviews, gathering data, establishing a connection between possible sources identified, testing data after collecting water samples, and interpreting the result obtained through the investigation. example occurred Woburn Massachusetts for about 10 years where many children unfortunately contracted leukemia. Other than Leukemia, residents of Woburn Massachusetts, when the contamination was at its worst, also show signs of liver, kidney, prostate and urinary track cancer. Risks of congenital abnormalities and birth defects were also present during that time(all about water filters). The last example was more recently in 2012 in Mutare, Zimbabwe, where where in a village somewhat nearby from the polluted water in Mutare caused children to gain horrible rashes that covered their entire bodies just from exposure to the contaminated water. These were horrible accidents that only took a little bit of tampering of the water source to cause epidemics…

coli, in a water source is an indication of the presence human or animal waste matter in the water. These bacteria are a type of fecal coliform bacteria found in the intestines of humans and animals. Drinking water that contains E. coli bacteria may cause diarrhea, abdominal cramps, headaches and nausea. Young children and elderly people may be more susceptible to the adverse effects of E. coli because their immune systems are delicate. Polluted water is also a breeding ground for mosquitoes.…

It originates from a microscopic parasite, which is an organism that feeds off of another to survive, called Giardia lamblia. It may be spread through contact with infected people and even through animals such as dogs, cats, beavers, cattle, etc. Eating contaminated food and drinking contaminated water amplifies the risk of catching the parasite and contracting Giardiasis.…

Communities and villages drink and use these contaminated and polluted waters, as they may have no other option. Many villages do not have any way of gathering clean water, for example wells.…
