Scenario 1
The concerns that I have about this scenario is that CDA has been instructed by their supervising SLP to work on the patient’s speech output due to the severe nature of the patient’s dysarthria, while working on this they are also asked by a different specialty to monitor and document the patient’s ability to drink fluids during the session. It is not noted whether or not a swallowing assessment has been done by the SLP to determine if the patient should be even drinking fluids.
There are a two possible outcomes that are for seeable in the scenario. One the CDA does what is asked and monitors the intake of fluids the patient swallows during their session. Two the CDA does not do what is asked by the OT on the grounds that CDA is …show more content…
There are a few possible outcomes that could happen for both presenting and not presenting the results of the test that was done on the student. One possible outcome is that if the CDA was to present the results they would violate the scope of practice that CASLPO has in place and can be held accountable for those actions. A second possible outcome that could happen if the CDA was to not present the material is that it could have an adverse consequence for the child and there IEP report. Parents possible would be frustrated since they more than likely took time off to be at this meeting and chances are the report will be incomplete or the meeting will have to rescheduled. Secondly the report is important to that child’s academic progress and with an incomplete report it could slow down the integration of their …show more content…
By having the CDA share the results in a professional setting it is clearly violating the scope of practice that CASLPO has set in place CASLPO, 2007,.
To address this issue I would have advised the principal who is asking me to interpret the results that it is out of my scope of practice and unfortunately I would not be able to speak on behalf of the SLP about the results, I would be more than happy to attend and answer questions that would fall under my scope of practice as a CDA. A possible solution to this would be rescheduling the meeting until the SLP is able to be there or possibly phoning the SLP and having them give the results of the test over the phone during the meeting
