Dynamic Learner

So that was a fun survey! It say’s I’m a Dynamic Learner, OK so now what? I would have to guess that if I had taken this survey a year ago or two maybe I would have scored differently. I say that because over the last decade I have had to operate differently based on the type of project and how close to my comfort zone I it was. My current project is an easy one, I can build this in my sleep, so (Sequence) and (Precise) are not really applicable. Overall I think I’m more of a Bridge Learner, but hey what do I know!
Sequence I scored a 20, puts me over the avoid line but not by much. So I don’t avoid it but I don’t go to at first. Maybe because most of the time I’m the one determining what needs to be done, once it’s associated with an emotion (my paycheck) it’s pretty easy to remember. Last year I was on a project that was over my head, I took lots of notes at first, but once I was comfortable with everything I pretty much stopped.

Most of the time I am in a very fluid situation, and in many cases it is about how to do it better than what is the standard. Because I tend to not care about my superiors expectations, most of the time I’ve been given tasks that have no clear methods, only an end state. In other words I get from the boss, I don’t know what this or how to do it, but it needs to be done, make it happen. So I’m somewhat used to getting some purpose and motivation from the top but no direction.

Technical ah! My highest score at 31. Use first! Yeah, pretty much all the reasons I have a low score for Precise. I need to work on some of these, most of the time I am OK with giving detailed instruction but I could be better. If I can’t find a solid reason to do something I’ll reevaluate its need to be done. But most of the time I can find a need to do a task, IE safety, better quality, avoid risk of lost

I refrain from making hasty decisions, a trait that’s made it easier to manage time and keep my life organized. It’s not that I don’t enjoy some spontaneity, just that I’ve had experience with faulty planning. I like to consider as many details and possible outcomes of a situation before making a decision; in fact, I believe it’s my best characteristic. Thinking things through allows me to make sound, satisfying choices in both my academic and social life. It is a practice that has saved me from careless mistakes on math tests and kept my activities.…

In all of the reading that we have done so far this year, I have probably picked up some new words and also learned the meaning to some that I have already heard before. So for my favorite experience was probably writing the 1200 word essay. Even though it was difficult to find ways to continue explaining how being able to read and write affects my life, I kinda liked it. However, I didn't like it because I had to talk about myself and I don't really like doing so. Though I did like that I was writing and telling a story.…

How I do on standardized tests is medium. I think I do medium on the tests because I don't always feel myself doing good because the questions get hard and it makes it harder for me to concetrate. I feel like I do good though sometimes because I can actually answer the problems without having any trouble. I don't consider myself a good test taker because I always end up guessing and it makes me mess up. I have always been this way because I get distracted and sleepy and I start guessing.…

In the context of Zaleznik’s article (Zaleznik, 1977), Captain Sullenberger is a manager, not a leader. The perception of Sullenberger as a leader seems to lie largely in the mystique of the landing of Flight 1549, and seems to answer Zaleznik’s question of “Is this mystique of leadership merely a holdover from our collective childhood of dependency and our longing for good and heroic parents?” (Zaleznik, 1977). With this question in mind, it is easy to see why he would be regarded as a leader by many people. My conclusion is that he is an effective manager who had a great moment of public leadership.…

In addition, I realized that I need to be able to make logical connections in order to learn in a way that promotes real understanding and long term memory. Furthermore, I discovered that setting goals and creating a plan that incorporates a checklist is profitable for me. When comparing the computer assessment and the self-assessment, the results were somewhat similar but after much self-examination and reflection, I believe the self-assessment is a more accurate representation of my working and learning styles. I believe that I strongly exhibit several of the traits in the excite dynamic group that I feel would classify me as deliberate rather than stress…

Explaining this class to someone who hasn’t taken it, would be somewhat difficult due to my bouncing around with words and not staying on track. However, I would do my best to explain it. First, by telling them to take the test that determines what his or her learning patterns were. Then after we had figured out what type of learner they are, go from there. I would go by telling them what all four learning patterns were to the best of my own knowledge, and try to explain to them what they mean for them.…
