When great artist work together what they create often times becomes wonderful classics.
In the world of film, when big names work together they can create some of the most magical adventures. One such collaboration that excites the masses with the probability of great time and a wonderfully told story comes from the pairing of Tim Burton and Jonny Depp. With a total of eight films where Burton directed Depp, their combined efforts have tied their styles and careers together irrevocably.

First the remake Charlie and The Chocolate Factory (2005), which has Depp playing the iconic role of Willy Wonka. With the impossible task of trying to compete with Gene Wilder's performance, the film, and Depp's portrayal, take a wildly different turn. Since the original Willy Wonka actually focused more on Charlie, this time around the focus was on Willy and his familial problems. Depp was able to portray the childlike and madcap candy maker and still be totally different from the original.
That same year, Burton developed and directed the story Corpse Bride (2005), which originally was a folktale. Burton, who is no stranger to stop-motion and Claymation tasks Depp with a role very similar to that of Ichabod Crane. Dark Shadows will not make the typical elegant come back, because it lacks the usual depth and intra-contrasting characters. There is very little real inner turmoil- both with the plot and the people- and the film is generally shallow and weaker for it. Perhaps that's why we have gone five years without another Burton/Depp film with nothing currently in the works. Regardless of past failure they have had great success working together, as some of Burton's best films start Depp, and some of Depp's most iconic roles come from Burton films.
