In every story there are characters who are going to be dynamic or static; static meaning the character shows little to no change even by the ending of the story, and Dynamic, meaning there is a significant change in the character throughout the story. For instance in the book, “Lamb to The Slaughter” by Roald Dahl, Mary Maloney is described in detail that she is a caring wife to her husband, she does all of the cleaning, cooking and in general just loves to care for him. Although, she’s not always this sweet, and throughout the story readers can notice change in her behavior. Based on what occured throughout the story, Ms.Maloney appears to be a dynamic character, with her actions, interior monologue and emotions leading to that conclusion. …show more content…
At the starting of the story, the majority of the interior monologue is about Patrick Maloney, either what’d she make him for supper, or her expressing just how happy she was when he was home. Mary hardly ever thought about herself, she’d mostly just think about how she could help her husband. Even after she killed him thats still one of the things she mostly thought about; She would think about him alive, about how much she loved him, and dead about what she would need to do to hide the fact that she actually killed him. Mary’s emotions went from being a calm but happy mood, to being secretively malicious. After all the big events occured, it says, “All the love for him came back to her, and she ran over to him, knelt down beside him, and began to cry” (Dahl 3) All this is telling us is that she did feel bad for what she did because she actually did love her husband, but nowhere did it say she was sorry and wished she didn’t do it in the first place. With everything that happended it’s easy to see that Mrs.Maloney emotions have gotten a bit more dark, and her interior monologue is mostly still about the same subject, about her

Vonnegut’s fusion of historical fiction and science fiction in Slaughterhouse Five (Vonnegut, 1969), allows for an exploration of the aftermath of the war on both individuals who fought in it, and society post-war, which he does more specifically through the character of the protagonist, Billy Pilgrim, and his invention of Tralfamadore. Noted by Kevin Brown, Vonnegut wanted to “remind the reader of the anomic alienation that existed in the society that came after that war” (Brown, 2011), which he does so eloquently through the element of science fiction within the novel. Despite the fusion of the two genres disrupting the chronology of the novel, we can explore how this seems to be relevant and contributes to the novel in a unique way that…

These characters not only give the writing a purpose, but present the irony, symbols, and conflicts in the stories. Without the main character there would not be any sort of writing. The main character may also be dynamic, which means the change as the story goes on, or they may be flat, which meants that they don’t change. Dynamic characters exist in all good stories; even though, the changes made could be small. Dynamic characters are very important to story advancement, without it all the characters would just be dull for the entire duration. Buck is an example of a big dynamic character, as the main character if Buck never changed the story would soon grow stale and boring. At the beginning of the book, Buck was just a simple pet, but by the end he had grown to the customs of the wild, like sleeping under the snow and standing your ground: “ It marked his adaptability, his capacity to adjust himself to changing conditions,…
