Due to his dependance of alcohol, most of his poems are thought to be inspired by alcohol. Some people believe that the poems that he wrote that earned him his fame were written when he was drunk which means that his success was due to him being drunk. The poem doesn’t necessarily support the views of the critics because it is about a lesson that applies can be learned by everyone and applied to everyone’s life. Although the poem wasn’t written in response to the criticism that he received, it proves the criticism right as he was under the influence of alcohol when he wrote his poem.
