Dylan Roof Research Paper

Dylann Roof childhood was not out of the normal for any other southern boy. He grew up around racism and that manifested inside him as he went into his early adult life. Dylann had to go through some of the same things that many young people must go through. He went through a messy divorce between his step mother and father. When interviewed his stepmother said that she was very afraid of Bennett Roof Dylann's father. She said in the interview that she put up with many beatings from Dylann’s father. Dylann’s education stopped when he dropped out of school after the ninth grade. Friends that were interviewed told stories that Roof was into segregation and he talked about wanting to start a 2nd Civil War. Roof’s roommate commented that Dylann said he was planning something big. In the days before the shootings Dylann Roof made many comments that he wanted whites to stay with whites and black with blacks. He made comments about the Trayvon Martin case and made it know that he was very angered over the case. Further investigation turned up a website that was designed by Dylann Roof that he was the administrator for. On this website he posted a 2000 word manifesto on why he chose to comment the killings and why he chose the AME Church in Charleston, South …show more content…
The reasons why Roof committed this terrible crime is for as much wanting to belong to a family as it was about his hatred of the African-American race. These hate groups that believe in white supremacy look to the young people for recruitment because they seem to be the most easy to influence, and in most cases youth that is looking for a place where they can get acceptance, and friendship from others with the same ideology. What society wants to know is if these disenchanted youth looking for acceptance with these groups are influenced by the ideology or in the tools of the trade, like the Confederate
