Hair maintenance is a very important part of your appearance, but spending hundreds of dollars on a hairstylist every month can be a large waste of money. Some people spend as much as $150 dollars for a trip to the salon. Dying your own hair is extremely simple! Learning how to successfully dye your hair at home can save you a lot of time and money. When dying your hair, you first want to select a color. Choosing a subtle color you’re comfortable with is the best option when dying your hair for the first time. Most people start off small and then move onto the more extreme colors like blonde to black or the other way around. After you’ve chosen your color you want to prepare the surrounding area, preferably a bathroom, for the dying process. …show more content…

This will ensure that you color every strand evenly. Starting at one of the four sections, separate it into smaller subsections and apply the dye starting at your roots and work your way to the tip. Starting at the tip can make your hair color become uneven so it is always best to start at the root. Make sure to cover each and every strand with dye. When you are finished with one section, un-slip the next one and work your way around your head. This is a long process and for the best results you have to be patient and very meticulous to ensure you get your desired color. Once every strand is evenly coated with dye, set a timer for the amount of time that the box instructs you to. Time varies depending on the percentage of developer you are using. Smaller percentages take less time than those of larger percentages. 10% developers usually take about 20 minutes and 20% developers take about half an hour. During this time you want to remove all of the excess dye from your skin with a wet cloth while being careful not to touch the dye on your hair. You can put a shower cap on to make sure you are only touching areas of skin. When the time is up rinse your head with cool water in the sink or get into the shower and run your head over water first. The color will rinse off, this does not mean you did it incorrectly this is completely normal. Keep rinsing until you
