The Bean Trees, by Barbara Kingsolver, tells the story of a woman named Taylor who falls for a man who is forbidden to love. Taylor adored a man named Estevan because of his vast vocabulary, gorgeous Mayan skin, and his way of thinking. Taylor knew everything about him was perfect, such as his white straight teeth and adorable laugh, but there was one thing stopping her from asking him out, his wife, Esperanza. For example, such as when Taylor thought to herself, “Estevan took off his shirt and laid back against the boat, his hands clasped behind his head, exposing his smooth Mayan chest to the sun. Moller’s argument for The Letting Die Thesis essentially states that it is morally required for present people to let those in poverty die even though their deaths can be prevented. By letting present people die, Moller argues that it will allow for a greater amount of future lives to be saved. The basic premiseS that Moller uses to back his argument is that future lives have the same inherent value as present lives, there will continue to be people in absolute poverty in the future, cost of aid will decrease over time, wealth can be increased over time, and that it is often beneficial to delay giving. The first point Moller uses to back his argument is establishing that presently existing people’s lives are just as valuable as future lives.…

TASK 1 : ESSAY Discuss the application of relevant theories of literary criticism in the selected text. Literary criticism from my point of view can be defined as the art or practice of judging and commenting on the qualities and characteristics of various literary works. Modern critics tend to pass down the concerns of earlier centuries, such as formal categories or the place of moral or aesthetic value. Some analyse texts as self-contained entities, in segregation from external factors, while others discuss them in terms of spheres such as biography, history, Marxism or even feminism. As the time passes by, the concepts of meaning and authorship have been explored and questioned through many aspects such as structuralism, post-structuralism,…
