Dwight David Eisenhower was born in Denison, Texas on October 14, 1890. Eisenhower was the third child out of seven total children. His parents were Ida Elizabeth Stover Eisenhower and David Jacob Eisenhower. At the age of one, Dwight’s father moved the family to Abilene, Kansas in hopes of finding better job opportunities. Eisenhower attended Abilene High School, where he was a football and baseball star. He later graduated in 1909 and spent two years after graduation working with his father and uncle at a cemetery. Most of the money that Eisenhower earned went to the college education of his younger brother, Edgar. The two brothers had promised each other that they would would take turns paying for the others education, while the other attended college. However, Edgar never got the chance to keep up his side of the deal due to the fact that in the year of 1911, Dwight earned a full scholarship to the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York. Just like in high school, Eisenhower became a football star. Dwight later graduated from the military academy in 1915 and became a second lieutenant in the military. After, graduation Eisenhower was stationed in Texas. He later met Mamie Doud, whom he began dating in. They got married nine months later, which was around the same time he was promoted in the military to second lieutenant. …show more content…
