Peter Novick creates a narrative looking at the approach that has been used over the course of American history looking at professional historiography. Specifically, he looks at the idea of objectivity and its development in America, as well as the contrast of development of the idea in other places. For Americans, objectivity was the basis of their practice. It began so by the development of a certain cadre of historians taught in Germany and perpetuated by them when they returned to the American system. I’ve been listening to a lot of Jon & Deek in the morning, and in the mid-afternoon, and early evening. Those two (or one?) have me flipping through channels, seeing if I can remember what station NPR or The Keg is on. All I could remember about a station was “the Eagle is classic rock,” and I spent many minutes at red lights flipping through the country music stations trying to be reunited with my old customary station, only to find myself listening to Will Ferrell screech “SAANNTTAA!” on 94.9’s Christmas ad. Nothing was more brutal, and yet familiar than this. There’s no aux cord in my 2002 Honda, and it spits out cd’s when I put them in, and I can’t make myself realize that I’m not motivated enough to actually listen to NPR on a morning drive, so I resist looking up the tune-in number.…
I show leadership, service, or scholarship character every day at school and home with all my sisters. But there are many events, where I show service more. For example, I help Ms. Soto with the PTA meetings that the school has, I also take care of her son Aaron whenever she has an important meeting to attend. I completed my field experience hours at Volusia Pines Elementary School in Lake Helen Florida. I was able to work with my nephew’s first grade teacher, Mrs. Erica Stevens. Altogether I spent 16 hours with Mrs. Stevens and her students. Mrs. Stevens has worked at Volusia Pines Elementary School for eight years. I entered the empty classroom illuminated by those gross fluorescent lights, decorated with the usual motivational posters, and I was greeted by the sunny presence of my math teacher, Ms.Seyfried. Since I was the extra teacher in the classroom, I worked with her for most of the day. I have been working with this student for two years now, she was just qualified for special education services this year for dyslexia. For her to complete half of the work that was assigned to the rest of the class, I had to reread and reword questions designed to prompt grade level students to collect the correct information for their topic.
