Peter Novick creates a narrative looking at the approach that has been used over the course of American history looking at professional historiography. Specifically, he looks at the idea of objectivity and its development in America, as well as the contrast of development of the idea in other places. For Americans, objectivity was the basis of their practice. It began so by the development of a certain cadre of historians taught in Germany and perpetuated by them when they returned to the American system. Leopold von Ranke to them was the definition of what a historian should be, describing him as an objective and impartial figure dislocated from bias.…

I’ve been listening to a lot of Jon & Deek in the morning, and in the mid-afternoon, and early evening. Those two (or one?) have me flipping through channels, seeing if I can remember what station NPR or The Keg is on. All I could remember about a station was “the Eagle is classic rock,” and I spent many minutes at red lights flipping through the country music stations trying to be reunited with my old customary station, only to find myself listening to Will Ferrell screech “SAANNTTAA!” on 94.9’s Christmas ad. Nothing was more brutal, and yet familiar than this. There’s no aux cord in my 2002 Honda, and it spits out cd’s when I put them in, and I can’t make myself realize that I’m not motivated enough to actually listen to NPR on a morning drive, so I resist looking up the tune-in number.…

I show leadership, service, or scholarship character every day at school and home with all my sisters. But there are many events, where I show service more. For example, I help Ms. Soto with the PTA meetings that the school has, I also take care of her son Aaron whenever she has an important meeting to attend. I'm willing to give up my personal time to take care of Aaron because I feel like if I see anyone needing to help I should to help them in any way I can. It's something inside of me that wakes up and tells me " go help ", " they need your help, go to see what you can do."…

If I could meet one family member, I would meet my great grandfather Oscar Salk. I want to meet him because I want to hear the story about how he came to America directly from him. He tried to come to America from Europe, but he was denied access into the country and had to live in Cuba for a few years. He was separated from my great grandmother because she had to go to Canada. He then came to America and eventually settled in Illinois with my great grandmother where he had my grandfather.…

There has been many graduates over the past years that have become very successful in the career that they chose especially the students that chose to compete professionally in sports. Mitty has over 50 clubs and over half of the clubs seem very appealing to me, especially the Computer Science club. I entered the empty classroom illuminated by those gross fluorescent lights, decorated with the usual motivational posters, and I was greeted by the sunny presence of my math teacher, Ms.Seyfried. She was wearing a red scarf and a light blue sweater, she’s a really young teacher and was fairly new to the school. I decided to interview this introverted math nerd to learn how she became the intelligent adult she is today. The interview was more like an interrogation at first as I awkwardly asked predisposed questions, but when we got to talking it became more like having a conversation, other than the part where I struggled to type at the speed of light to get down everything she said.…
