Being a social worker or counselor is the occupation that I have chosen. I chose the DVI test. This test would help me when I have clients that are court ordered to take a domestic violence test. This will assist me in helping to see where the client is having problems and try to prevent it if possible or let them know what treatment would be necessary for the client. I know that I will be working with all types of people, and I have chosen the DVI test which is a risk assessment tool and is used by probation officers, counselors and courts. The DVI test would detect early problems identified which would promote early intervention, treatment, matching problem severity with treatment and reduce recidivism. Today there are individuals that are going to court on domestic violence. It is not just the lower income families that are involved with domestic violence, it affects all people. Some cultures accept violence they think this is how to resolve conflict. They justify the violence when the woman is suspected of being unfaithful. Violence against native women is not traditional. If the male is having any feelings that might lead to abuse of women then they need to talk to the Creator and to counselors for guidance. (The Red Road to Wellbriety, White Bison.) Some people do not want to get involved when they witness domestic violence. Usually but not all the time the woman will take up for the abuser and the one offering assistance will get hurt. Intervention can help stop the violence. This type of domestic violence is underreported. The statement that you don’t know what is happening behind closed doors is heard. Laws and policies that make violent behavior an offense sends a message to society that violence will no longer be
